Christina Baxter

Executive Director

PATH Certified Instructor & Equine Specialist in Mental Health & Learning

Chris became involved with our riding program in 1998 when her daughter became one of the very first volunteers. Chris herself then became a volunteer in 1999 and soon realized that using her degree in Special Education combined with 15+ years experience working in the public schools in a Special Education classroom along with her riding experience were a perfect combination to become an instructor herself. She began teaching therapeutic riding lessons in 2001. Chris obtained her certification in therapeutic riding from the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH)  in March of 2004. Chris uses fun games and songs creatively along with the skills and knowledge of working in Special Education to reach each rider's goals. She knows sign language and is familiar with using various augmentative communication devices and programs and can incorporate these into lessons if needed. Chris lives in Flemington with her husband.

Carla Harbourt

Carla came to Riding with HEART in 2011 as a volunteer with her daughter. Growing up on a horse farm, Carla enjoyed riding and being in the company of horses. After a career in the fashion industry, then a shift to IT, Carla dedicated herself entirely to being a stay-at-home mom. In 2011, Carla joined Riding with HEART as a volunteer with her daughter. She became a member of the staff in 2017 and earned certifications as a PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning.  In 2017, Carla assisted in the creation of an additional program, BraveHEARTs, serving the unique needs of our veterans, law enforcement and first responder community and their families.  Carla lives in Hunterdon County with her husband and two children.
